Charge controllers are key components in solar installations. Available useful output watts of installed capacity is dependent on efficiency of your solar charge controller. MPPT controllers works by converting excess voltage into current.
Rule of thumb: for maximum output, connect your solar panels in series so that it nears the maximum PV voltage. Example, good MPPT charge controller with maximum PV of 150V will comfortably accept 300watts x3 solar panels in series (approx 120V DC input) and 2 parrallel for a 24V system. This will definitely give higher output than connecting all solar panels in parallel to abide by 24V rule.
